UK Tech Investment Weekly Episode 15

UK Tech Investment Round-Up takes place every Monday at 12 pm BST on Clubhouse, hosted by Manoj Ranaweera of Deal Lite (a product of Techcelerate) with co-hosts, Andrew Threlfall of Malinko (Techcelerate’s largest tech company, which makes scheduling community nursing a walk in the park for the NHS) and Stewart Townsend, a SaaS Channel Specialist who helped scale Zendesk, DataSift and many others.

Speakers

1. Adam Shaw – Scribestar (Seed Follow On)

Adam is the Co-founder and Chairman of Scribestar, which recently secured £1 million Seed Follow On investment via Crowdcube.

Adam has a background in investment banking and private equity. He has worked on many public and private transactions and was recently a partner at L1 Retail from 2016 to 2019, doing large PE deals. Prior to this he did SME PE at Manfield Partners, led the UK arm of an Icelandic investment firm and was the UK head of M&A for Kaupthing Bank and at Enskilda Securities. Adam was one of the founders of ScribeStar and helped with its funding from 2010 to 2013 before rejoining in 2019.

ScribeStar is a secure cloud-based platform for the improved production of documents for complex capital markets transactions and their regulatory filings. ScribeStar’s digital ecosystem provides complete project management for document production and approval. 

2. Matthew Larby – Realm (Seed)

Matthew is the CEO and Co-founder of Realm, which recently secured £1.6 million Seed investment led by Alphabit.

Matthew is a Technologist who builds teams to tackle big market ideas. He was the Founder of Unifed – an IoT PropTech business and had a successful exit. He is also a Director/Investor at the Water Club.

Realm is a community driven open-source project to create personalised metaverses. Realm allows creators to combine music, art and games to create the perfect realm and mint it as an ERC-1155. 

3. Jason Ash – YoungPlanet (Seed Follow on)

Jason is the Founder and CEO of YoungPlanet, which secured £500k Seed Follow On investment via Crowdcube.

Jason has held executive roles for 10+ years in retail, consumer and food brands. He is also a Senior Adviser at Austin Fraser from 2018 to the present and an EIS investor. YoungPlanet started as a family project, Jason and his family with young kids had been able to acquire many items through ‘garage sales’ and ‘hand-me-downs’ which inspired the YoungPlanet.

The YoungPlanet app helps you find children’s things for free and pass on things that you don’t need anymore. The app connects you with people in your local area who want the same. 

4. Fizel Nejabat – Algbra (Seed)

Fizel is the Co-Founder and COO at Algbra, which secured £3.75 million Seed investment from investors including SFC Capital.

Fizel was a former Clifford Chance Lawyer specialising in M&A and financial services with global legal experience across London and the Middle East. 

Algbra platform is built to create a values-based ecosystem that fits with the everyday financing needs of ethically-minded consumers, offering products and services that have the following principles at its heart – transparency, fairness, sustainability and non-interest based finance.

    Thanks for the invite, glad to have been able to join. It was interesting to hear about others’ journeys as founders too and to hear about others that had raised on Crowdcube too.
