UK Tech Investment Weekly Episode 19

UK Tech Investment Round-Up takes place every Monday at 12 pm BST on Clubhouse, hosted by Manoj Ranaweera of Deal Lite (a product of Techcelerate) with co-hosts, Andrew Threlfall of Malinko (Techcelerate’s largest tech company, which makes scheduling community nursing a walk in the park for the NHS) and Stewart Townsend, a SaaS Channel Specialist who helped scale Zendesk, DataSift and many others.

Speakers

1. Ravi Jakhodia – Coupay (Pre-Seed)

Ravi is the Co-founder and CEO of Coupay, which recently secured £200k Pre-Seed investment led by SFC Capital.

Ravi has worked extensively in innovation and new products with teams spread across more than 40 countries. He worked in FMCG organisations like SABMiller and Diageo where he launched several new to market brands and products across Europe, Africa and Asia. He quit his corporate career to start his own IoT company Minda iConnect, focusing on IOT and connected vehicles.

Coupay leverages Open Banking and user insights to help small businesses, freelancers and the self-employed get paid securely and more conveniently. They do this by delivering a low-cost, hugely scalable invoicing and payments platform through which businesses can send ‘Smart Invoices’ to their customers to pay them by bank transfer. 

2. James Buckley-Thorp – Bequest (Seed)

James is the Founder of Bequest, which secured £1.7 million Seed investment led by Kuvi Capital.

James is the exited-founder of the international clothing brand [Rupert and Buckley] and a startup orientated leader with extensive skills in retail, operations, marketing analytics, branding, product and growth management. Inspired by personal experiences, he founded Bequest in 2019.

FF Bequest t/a Bequest is creating a digital revolution in the insurance industry with the sole purpose of simplifying wills and life insurance for the millennial market. Their proprietary tech involves no medical checkups or mental health discrimination, and the process has each individual customer in mind. 

3. Tom Leathes – Motorway (Series B)

Tom is the Co-founder & CEO of Motorway, which secured £48 million Series B investment led by Index Ventures.

Tom is a serial entrepreneur and an Angel investor/advisor. He was the Founder of uSwitch.com, Official Space, LoanCube, Acre and Top10 (A hotel recommendation app). The idea for Motorway was born out of frustration as consumers, selling cars.

Motorway Online is the next-generation used car marketplace. We help everyone sell their car for more in a few simple taps, and connect car dealers with the best used stock instantly, without the middlemen, and entirely online.
